Frustration is something I’ve been pondering in a season where exposure to frustration has been a cherished opportunity, yet only cherished as a product of later reflection. Gradually God has been teaching me something about frustration through my immersion in it. Not that I haven’t had significant immersion in frustration beforehand; just that this season has sprinkled frustration throughout my experience effervescently. This is what God has shown me: frustration is alleviated when identity is addressed in: 1) knowing our purpose; 2) accepting it; and, 3) embracing it.

Some weeks ago I was asked to speak and teach on prayer and I hesitated and actually said “No”. Why did I say “No”? I explained to the person who asked me that it would be best if you just went and prayed. I think that was what happened. I do hope that was what happened. Many Christians are so spiritually frail, sickly, and lacking in spiritual vitality that they cannot stick to prayer for more than a few minutes at a time. That can be true. Work at it. Be determined. Sow and reap the blessings and rewards. Through Christ you can absolutely, unequivocally do anything God places before you. These words are so helpful when I feel so weak.

In my recent reading and study of Amos Chapter 5, this scene begins with lamentation and ends with the threat of deportation. How tragic it all is! When that happens people are hurt and wounded and damaged. When God speaks about seeking He does so because people have not been seeking! How does this apply to you? Take God’s word seriously and respond prophetically and positively.

Reading and studying the book of the prophet Amos has been so enlightening and reassuring in these current times. The Lord God Almighty is speaking. Amos reminds his listeners as to Who is really speaking and he is simply the message boy. The only one who can really help the nations is the one who was born in an outhouse in Bethlehem of Judea, and who became a carpenter’s apprentice in the Highlands of Galilee – in Nazareth – Jesus Christ, the Son of God, our Saviour and Lord and Rescuer. This message is a message which needs to be proclaimed to the people in these present days.

A man could never be taken to court as a result of his thoughts, but when it moves into words, deeds and action, the situation changes. Do you ever feel there is a shadow which comes now and again and seems to cross your path and darken your future hopes and dreams? Might appear only now and again, or might it raise its foreboding presence all too frequently? Does it have that tendency to prevent your life from being fruitful and prosperous and successful? What is the purpose of fruit and success and prosperity? God would have us be fruitful and produce seed which in turn might produce more fruit. It does not always happen that way but that does not cause us to shy away from the possibilities.
