We know from scientific radioactivity studies of the Earth and Sun that our solar system probably formed about 4.5 billions years ago, which means that the Universe must be at least twice that old and probably older, maybe twenty billion years or so. Therefore, whatever we do for posterity isn’t going to matter much in light of the huge expanse of time and space that is a fact in front of us every star-lit night. To think otherwise would be more than folly; it would border on arrogance and conceit regarding our place in this universe, which is no more than an insignificant speck of dust.

Some people of faith, Christians and others, worry about the increasing levels of freedom demonstrated in society today. They are wrong to worry. Freedom in itself, is not something to be feared but a perfect state to be longed for. Jesus’ greatest moment of liberation, was his decision to give in to his fate. When people give in to their destiny, whatever it might be, they are carrying out the will of God, for our destinies are written in a divine code within us. What is worrying, is when the perfect will of God is attacked by wrong thinking.

When we heap adulation on talented individuals, or even perhaps on individuals with little talent, we invest our hope in people. Our modern, twenty-first century society, is hysterical in its pursuit of mortal, living heroes. The sports and entertainment industries have been the most successful in producing such worshipful figures, and a recent survey of children around the world demonstrated that our youth have no more ambition than to be the next Beckham or the next Katie Price. There is nothing wrong with being Beckham or Katie Price, or any other successful person who succeeds in captivating our imagination, but it is wrong, and unfair, to invest them with all the hopes of mankind.

Rejection and acceptance are polar opposites. They make diametrically and supremely powerful life outcomes and destinies a reality for every single person. Rejection and acceptance experiences set us on the path to failure and hopelessness or success and confidence. This is probably the most profound concept known to humankind, beyond total God.

It was so interesting to read of John Wesley’s account of what can go wrong in the Church of Jesus Christ when there has been ‘revival’ and ‘renewal’, and we have seen something of that over these past thirty to forty years. John Wesley observed that within every revival were the seeds of apostasy. Now that is serious. Most people would argue that sex is a very good thing indeed. There are even passages in the Bible, the Song of Songs in particular, which celebrate it. When God created Eve as a companion for Adam, the chances are He was planning something more than just good conversation. So if sex is a good thing, why does it so often lead to trouble?

Whether its sexual temptation or trying to resist food we need a strategy for coping.The writer in the book of Psalms asks God a question that I’ve asked God on this journey and you may also have asked in this area or another–‘ How can a young person stay pure?’ Although his plea sounds desperate and heart-felt I am comforted that the writer’s problem will be answered.

There are two kinds of karma. Good and Bad. It is the karma that we bring back to the quantum ocean when we block back in, that creates the matrix for our next incarnation.

Quite often the response to jealous emotion is to give your partner something to be jealous about too, so a chain reaction of inappropriate behaviour is set up where everyone’e emotions become chaotic and self-destructive. So where does jealousy come from and can it ever be a good thing?

One of the things which makes believing in God so good is that we share in His righteousness. There is no question of doing the wrong thing if what we do is guided by our good conscience, the channel through which we connect with the divine.

Having returned from a rather superb Prayer Day and Conference with Gary Kah and having heard about just what is going on behind the scenes in political circles it made me turn to the book of Psalms and to Psalm 120 in particular. They are called Songs of Ascent, and were sung as people ascended to Jerusalem, particularly after the 70 years of being in Exile in Babylon. Babylon is always symbolic of confusion, and we appear to be in a period of serious confusion just now globally. There are times when we have to seek to see as far as we can and when we have to see what Jesus Christ is doing in the present situation in our lives, and in our nation, and in our world. This Psalm helps us understand as we are given a degree of insight.
