I know ministers. I spent a long time soaking in religion and ministers. I sat in meetings, seminars and sermons of ministers. I ate meals by the score and observed how men as ministers thought, reasoned and pastored their people. I was a minister and I have some advice for ministers.

There are several different types of prayer. In his letter to the Ephesians Paul instructed them to “pray with all types of prayer”. EPH 6:18 says “Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints.”

Singing praises to God or worshiping him opens up a window to heaven. As your praise reaches the heart of God, it becomes a two way stream of communication. As you touch God with your praise, his Holy Spirit touches you and ministers to you. Praise and worship can also open the door to blessings from God.

Usually when we fall in a hole, we tend to do one of two things: give up, or push harder. Neither choice feels good nor produces very good results, because neither choice uses your connection to the Divine; they are efforts made from a place of isolation. But by following these steps…

But during this past week, I came across the phrase “overlooked blessings,” although I cannot recall where I read it or to whom it should be attributed. Nonetheless, the phrase has certainly stirred up more emotion than has the notion of “counting my blessings.” For it is profoundly more thought-provoking to conjure up blessings that have been there all along but for one reason or another have gone unrecognized. To all of a sudden be alert to hidden treasures which we’ve taken for granted. Never counted. To be startled by the diamonds in our own backyard, the jewels in our own children’s crowns, and the pearls around our own mothers’ necks.

Some religious fanatics will say that governments are abandoning God and the their God is very angry at this fact. I find it fascinating that those who say such things are busy quoting what god said or is saying.
