Over these past weeks, having read and studied many of the Psalms, I have now given myself to this study of what is called revival, and revival is the answer to the spiritual drought and dehydration and formality and ritualism which can befall any individual or church. Our view regarding revival depends upon our view of the Church of Jesus Christ. We depend upon God the Father and upon the love of Jesus Christ and the anointing power and presence of the Holy Spirit, and upon the Word of God. It is interesting that when God is at work there is always an emphasis on the Bible and the reading of the Bible and the study of the Bible. To bring about personal revival will involve the Word of God and the presence of the Holy Spirit, and when the Holy Spirit moves anew there will be a hunger for the Word of God.

One of the greatest needs of the church of Jesus Christ at this time is what is called revival and our desire for independence or stubbornness can cause us to experience spiritual dryness or spiritual dehydration. I wonder how many feel spiritually dry and so desirous of that outpouring of the Holy Spirit which can satisfy in every way. This is the only answer to the problems of the Church of Jesus Christ and the community around us and society in general, but it must surely start with the Church of Jesus Christ. So many books in the Bible refer to that sinful desire we have in our fallen nature for self control and self dependency. God knows that when we try to run our own lives on our own terms we often fall short or miss His plans and purposes for us.
