I don’t understand why some people choose to be so happy, but I like it. Lately I have been noticing that those with whom I am interacting seem to be much happier people than in times past. Could it be that this whole world peace thing is coming around?

Most of my life I have run on a performance treadmill attempting to earn love and acceptance from God and others. I went from the life of a sinner to a religioholic (an alcoholic is preoccupied by alcohol, a workaholic is preoccupied by work, I was preoccupied with legalistic religion). Today my focus is on my relationship with God and teaching my children how much God and I love them.

It has been helpful to me to see my spiritual journey as a climb up a mountain. The Bible is a map to the path up the mountain. In mountain climbing the terrain becomes steeper and steeper, but with each level there is greater vision.

Joy in trials? James was kidding, right? He certainly wasn’t talking about the trials faced by a 21st-century Christian. Does James expect us to rejoice in challenges like pornographic television, murder-filled video games, demonic movies, judgmental relatives, nasty neighbors, evolution teachings, and abortions preformed right down the street? Honoring life is about realizing that life is a gift to be cherished every single moment. Honoring life is about following your destiny, without having to “find” it. Honoring life is about feeling continuous inner peace and joy.
