Consciousness is ever present and you are continuously in the flow of awareness. You were born with awareness of yourself and others. This awareness is what gives you identity and allows the ego to start building a personality. It is up to you to grow awareness beyond the basic awareness of individuality. Free will is the ability for each person to evolve higher consciousness within each life time. How you react to life’s experiences is how you build your degree of awareness. Your beliefs will mirror how the world works for you. Beliefs are the interpretation you place on your experiences. Beliefs about yourself and others determine your relationships. Whatever your beliefs about how the world works, awareness of self is the common denominator for all people. No matter where you start, life will provide opportunities for growing awareness.

How do we relate to others on this planet of ours? Do we judge others by what we see and hear, or do we relate through feeling for the truth? I ask these questions because so many relate through visual and sound only, forming judgments and opinions based upon their conditioning, therefore they are not really relating at all.

Many people have asked the question, what is love? There is no direct answer as the indescribable cannot be described. What we can do is look at what is not love and this action of negating all that is not love from our lives would then leave us with love. We know that judgments are not love.

Praying the Lord’s Prayer is difficult for survivors of childhood abuse. What do those words mean and how are you to take the “forgiveness” bit? Then there is the piece on “temptation.” These four queries may help you to get past the “outer” words of the prayer.

Nowadays there is growing pressure on all of us to ensure that our children steer away from our failures and our mistakes. As man we move away from our spiritual characteristics when we hide away from the truth, cover the bad in the past believing that we are protecting our children from the tribulations in life.

Abiding in Christ is like being a branch connected to a vine – it’s where your sustenance comes from, where your strength lies. If a branch is somehow dislocated from the vine, it becomes useless and eventually dies. For Christians, Jesus is our true vine.

Survivors of child abuse have a tough time on the issue of forgiving. Forgiveness is a process. The decisions to forgive come incrementally. I learned how to set limits and care for myself. I came to sense God’s love and comfort, and to know that I was a child of God.

Survivors want to use names for God that are not toxic. Individuals abused by parents, family members or persons in authority require safe names for the Divine. In praying the Lord’s Prayer, “Father” usually needs to be replaced with a user-friendly name. There are many possibilities, this article shares five, and there are many more.

Forgiveness is an integral part of the Lord’s Prayer. Survivors of child abuse have a tough time on the issue of forgiving. I have struggled with this spiritual issue as I learn how to pray, and wish to share with you some of my thoughts and prayers. You will find that praying the Lord’s Prayer in words from the heart is a blessing.
