A couple of months ago a close friend of mine celebrated his 60th birthday with family and friends flying in from all over the country. Self-orientation taken to extreme means we experience difficulty not only in a sense of isolation when relationships don’t work out but in other ways; self-consciousness becomes painful shyness, self-concern becomes neurotic worry, and self-indulgence becomes greed. That’s when we need spiritual healing.

Christmas time is coming and we are getting ready to enter a Holiday period. This is the period where families get together, re-unite or celebrate… At this time, things might also surface from the past, while also things have a chance to heal… It depends on how you handle what is in there…

Over the past few weeks, we’ve taken a break from studying the Acts of the Apostles to study the birth of Jesus. Actually, the contrasts have been quite interesting. Admittedly, it’s been a while since I’ve studied through the first chapters of Luke, along with Matthew 1, and many other Scriptures proclaiming the coming Messiah. I’m not sure why, but it seems old fashioned to some to study the Christmas story with such detail. Maybe we’ve been over it so much that it has become tiresome… but not to me.
