I had the privilege of spending a week hanging and hiking around Yosemite this past week. I’ve lived in Northern California for 25 years and this was my first trip, and the first thing I realized when I got there was that I was so grateful that I made it there. My favorite hike was up to the top of the Vernal Falls.

Raised in churches all my life, through scores of sermons, preachers told me that true “faith” in God is unemotional. That my “feelings” don’t “count”. That I can only “safely know” God through theology, through my mind and my intellect. In fact, I grew up hearing warnings about those people who call themselves “Christian” but who are “caught up in emotionalism”. They get carried away with their feelings, working themselves “into a lather” in their excitement over God. But practicing the restraint of our natural, emotional responses to a God Who manifests Himself to us in so many, wonderful ways is NOT a “sacrifice” He wants us to make. Apparently Jesus Himself – in the face of Satan’s shattering defeat by His’ disciples – went “jumping and leaping and spinning about in rapturous joy!”

Oprah and Eckhart Tolle take a break from thinking to be aware and experience unhindered breathing. Take a moment of silence to withdraw from mental fixation, formulation, and articulation. All of these mental processes can be utterly exhausting and excessively engaging, wherewith they contain and forbid your spirit within participation, play, and creativity. Break out, breathe freely, and break forth into newness of life today.

It can come suddenly, accidentally, a deep sense of inner peace and aliveness. Can you laugh at will? Can you cry at will? Can you touch your inner demon? Can you touch your inner grace? The inner environment is many layered. AS you dig into the inner soil, you find yourself confronted by other feelings than you expected. We dig within to find peace of mind but there are other shadows. In fact, according to the ancient teachers, who have mastered this innerwealth, you will find the whole outer world mirrored within.

There are many unknowns in our life, aren’t there? Personally, we don’t always know what our finances will be month to month, what our itinerary will be later this year, if my son will make the soccer team again, will the refrigerator keep holding out, etc. You have some of the same unknowns too, I’m sure. They used to terrify me.

Let me say something revolutionary: There is a Move by the Spirit of God throughout the earth today. This Move of God seeks to raise up a Church that is not about culture, denomination, region or race. It’s the Church as described by Paul, the apostle (and by Hosea in the Old Testament!); the Church of which Jesus spoke, saying, “I will build My Church and the Gates of Hell shall not prevail against it.” It’s the Church which has no geographical location and no systematic structure; it’s the Church which may exist in any area and grow within any denomination, because this Church is not an “organization” but an “organism”; a living Being — called the Body of Christ.

The Kingdom of Heaven truly is a Kingdom of Power and Might, the pulling down of strongholds, Great and triumphant in the earth! But none of that powerful magnificence will even be manifested in this earth it unless the Kingdom is first manifested through relationships – Love relationships. As Jesus said, “By THIS shall all men know that you are My disciples, if you love one another!”

This remarkable story recently made national news. Pauline Jacoby had just finished putting her groceries into her car trunk in the Wal-Mart parking lot in Dyersburg, Tennessee. As she got into the driver’s seat a man slid into the front passenger seat and told her he had a gun and wanted all her money.

There’s an old saying from the Talmud that every blade of grass has an angel watching over it constantly whispering, GROW, GROW, GROW. If that’s true about Grass, what must be true about us?
