Many people define themselves as spiritual rather than religious. But spirituality – at least on a day-to-day basis – can be challenging to maintain. Unlike religion, spirituality has no organized structure to fall back on. There is one practice, though, that instantly connects us to what some call the Divine Spark and takes only a few moments.

I lived in the same house for 21 years and then I left home. It was safe in that house, secure, of course it was childhood and I did not have to worry about anything, my parents took care of me and provided what I needed. When I finally moved at age 21, I had to really take care of myself and it was terrifying. You see at the time I was pregnant and unmarried, so I not only had myself to look after, but my unborn child as well.

There is a reason for everything. Nothing “bad” happens; only the “right” things occur in the world and in our lives. As difficult as that is to accept at times, this is the rule. This is life. This is what we learn from spiritual concepts.

When Jesus touches you and calls you and you rise up and follow Him, never consider for a single moment of returning to your former way of life with all its sadness and traps and snares and nets and sin.

God is not an entity, God is an energy that permeates every atom of the universe, and this energy is free of all concepts of duality, such as good or evil. The energy that is God seeks to learn, and so incarnates on this plane thousands of times, in thousands of forms.

For those of you who know the noble truths taught by the Buddha, you already know that to live is to suffer and that the good things in life must be taken in context and not for granted. The good news is that the Third Noble Truth is that the end of suffering is attainable. The end (cessation) of suffering can be attained through something called nirodha.

Jesus came to earth to save us because we cannot save ourselves from sin and its consequences. No matter how good we are, we cannot eliminate the sinful nature present in all of us. Only Jesus can do that. He didn’t come to help people save themselves; he came to be THEIR Savior.

When we operate according to God’s blueprint, we will prosper in every area of our lives: family, relationships, money, business, and health Proverbs 11:25 says, “The generous soul will be made rich, and he who waters will also be watered himself.” What we make happen for others, God will bless us in return.
