The Act of Blessing
The act of blessing others in daily life is a powerful force. Learn what a blessing is, the importance of blessing and how to bless others. As you bless those around you, you too, will be blessed.
In a Conversation with GodIt’s sometimes difficult not to role-play the dramatic scene of the day, starring the stress-filled me, the angry me, the sad me, the bewildered me or some other “me.”
Freedom and the ability to live one’s life as one chooses is the highest, and most threatening, calling of human individuality and spirituality. We live in a world of conformity, and it is getting worse, not better. Someone always demands you see the world through their eyes and filter one’s religious and political beliefs through their filters. Organizations can demand that one obey their set values or loose your status in that organization. Voters demand that one man be all things, which is impossible no matter what the Apostle Paul said, to all people. Anyone that can please everyone, or be whatever they need them to be so THEY are comfortable, is duplistic and inauthentic to the extreme. You could never trust a man or woman that literally practiced “being all things to all men.”
Faith, Salvation, Born Again, and Judgment SimplifiedSalvation is simple…The moment a person truly believes that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, walked on the earth, died for them, and resurrected, and as a result, they are promised salvation through the redemption of his shed blood. But understanding the things of Christian faith that come from a surety of salvation becomes confused when a the solid foundation of Jesus Christ is not laid.
The Fine Line of Christians Blessing the Haters of GodIt’s a fine, fine, fine grey line, and a very narrow path Christians sometimes have to walk. If we are being attacked by our enemies, then we are to pray for them, and offer blessings instead of curses. BUT…strong Christian workers must avoid placing themselves in situations where the haters of God can trick them for a blessing from practiced speech, expected responses or patterns of Christian behavior.
Tarry With Me“And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. But the Lord God called to Adam, and said to him, ‘Where are you?'” (Genesis 3:8-9) You and I can return to the “garden”. We can walk with our heavenly Father in the (yes,) “cool of the day”, which can be anytime we make a decision of our will to set time aside for communion with Him.
Wonder…a sense of wonder. Isn’t that where we all end up when we consider our God, His creation, the works of His mighty hand? I once had an office mate at work with whom I did this wondering out loud. One day I was talking about one thing in particular that I wondered about when she suddenly burst out with, “Bill, you just wonder TOO MUCH!” Too much? Such a thought had never crossed my mind before! Am I not supposed to wonder, or had I crossed some maximum threshold and boldly gone where no man had gone before?
Here I Am (Gulp!), Lord!“Here I am, Lord Is it I, Lord? I have heard you calling in the night I will go, Lord If you lead me I will hold your people in my heart” A few years ago my dear friend, Robbie, gave me new insight into the significance of this song. We must have been singing it in a service and I told her how much I liked it. She said something like, “But have you ever thought of the seriousness of the words–about what you’re saying when you sing this song?” And, therein, lies the beginning of another journey with the Lord…
Let’s Synchronize Watches“On your walls, O Jerusalem, I have appointed watchmen; all day and all night they will never keep silent. You who remind the Lord, take no rest for yourselves.” Isaiah 62:6 Recently I was given an opportunity through which the Lord reminded me about aspects of intercessory prayer which I had forgotten. Perhaps you have been in the place I was and can identify. I admit I am a slow learner when it comes to spiritual matters and need repeated instruction to get it to “sink in.”
Just As I AmJust as I am, without one plea, But that Thy blood was shed for me, And that Thou bidst me come to Thee, O Lamb of God, I come, I come. So begins one of the most familiar old hymns–one which is most likely remembered because of its use as an “invitational song” at the close of many traditional church services. Whether or not you know this hymn, you probably are not familiar with the history of its authorship and the story behind its writing. At least, I know I was not.
A Spiritual RetreatSpiritual retreats come in varied forms and experiences. You can even start incorporating spiritual retreats at home.
Jesus Loves Me“When you get this concept into your mind and heart it will totally revolutionize your life.” That’s just the way the Lord said it to me. And just what is this revolutionary concept? His all-consuming, unconditional love for me. (And each of you can say the same.)
