Just about everyone knows the story of David and Goliath. I will never forget the first time I heard it. I was probably eight or nine years old. Afterwards, I peered up at the ceiling at the bottom of the stairwell and tried to imagine myself confronting such a gargantuan. It would have been scary to say the least. But many years later I heard a sermon that got me wondering why Goliath got so much attention. The preacher had personally watched a lion drag a fully grown cow over a high fence like it was child’s play. He then talked about how awesome it was for David to have killed such a beast as a boy protecting his father’s sheep. And then it struck me: David killing the lion is much more impressive than David killing Goliath! So I couldn’t help but wonder, what’s so important about David killing Goliath?

This article suggests another perspective on John 20:23, “If you forgive anyone their sins, they are forgiven; if you retain their sins, they are retained.” Often thought that this was giving power to withhold forgiveness, it was actually offering us another way to heal them.

I know: your entire life you have been searching for solutions. You bought that fancy car to make your neighbor’s envious of your creature comforts. You graduated from an ivy league university and have acquired a fancy label. Now, you are known as a President or CEO or MD. You have a fancy salary and expensive tastes. You can afford to buy things that others can only dream about. When you walk down the isle, people talk in hushed whispers about you. To them, you are an over-achiever: you are living the dream.

We must not forget that he chose to come to save us, he was not forced. He volunteered to come and save us from grips of Satan. The fullness of his ministration as evidenced in the Holy Spirit is unimaginable. I just think it should ‘glory be to God’ for giving us this reason for the season.

Therefore, if the gate to heaven were so narrow compared to the gate into hell, which is rather very wide; it stands to reason that hell is more popular, easier and fashionable than access to heaven. This makes hell the default, and not the alternative (Matt. 7:13-14). No one is reporting first in heaven only to be booted out to hell, or beyond hell as some will like to joke (1 John 5:10-13).

What (if I may ask) made the wall of Jericho, Goliath the giant, the Red Sea, the Egyptians etc disappear? It is faith in, plus action on God’s word! The invisible and unseen but spoken Word of God took them out of the way!

When one experiences how to be in a dynamic, creative and conscious relationship with each present moment, there is an automatic new seating of consciousness from the authenticity of Self as witness. This is an awareness realization that is over and above the ego understanding of self or static identifications of form (which have their good and right places in life – just not here, in matters of insight, breakthrough, and the conscious shift of awareness that sets us free).

When we want, need and have nothing but God, our lives finally agree and desire is quenched. That, of course, is the theory. Shelving our desire is much harder, and it’s only sustainability achieved when we learn to surrender to the Spirit of God in our moments of temptation…

People are going to great extremes trying to please God, shouldn’t the one whom is to be pleased set the standard on how this is done? Some of you might have been doing it unconsciously, but doing this intentionally is what God requires of us; let’s see what it is God is looking for from us.
