My disillusionment with the Catholic Church set in as a child and culminated when I stopped going to church as a teen. The Church posed a number of problems in my mind, but I especially developed an aversion to anything God. The image of a gray-bearded father figure looking down from up above just didn’t work for me. Despite trying, I could not reconcile the dependency that this separateness evoked. I was a disempowered soul, trapped in a victim state.

Jesus said, “Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has no where to lay His head” (Matt. 8:20). Is this true? Yes, but at the same time, it is not true. He could have had a dozen beds. Then why did He not use them?

So many people today are questioning their purpose even in the midst of a challenging economy and insecurity. Peace is a concept that we overuse, that we hear about a lot, and that we seldom understand. A spirituality, we think – a political item – but what of its’ practical application in our own lives? And what will peacefulness give us on a realistic basis ?Where will peacefulness, if we practice it ourselves, lead us as a species ? This poor pathetic rich man was misusing and abusing his wealth. Here is a lesson from Jesus Christ on how not to use money. The world would probably applaud this man, and think he was good and successful in life, and probably would have liked to have received an invitation to attend one of his dinners or parties. But, he was making no preparation for the future, just as many today are making absolutely no preparation whatsoever for the future. Not far from his front door lay a poor beggar named Lazarus. Jesus names this beggar, and Lazarus is living in such misery. Every day Lazarus was carried to the rich man’s gates.

I am incapable of knowing who I am as long as I think I have an idea. The idea of whom and what I think I am prevents me from receiving who I actually am. What I perceive to be is in fact distorted by the clouded and disassembled accumulated perception of myself. My self-serving preconditioned and memory based automated mind takes it upon itself to determine the various colors and dimensions interpreting my existence.
