Great dangers are confronting our world at this time and one of these dangers is compromising the truth of the whole Word of God. This can take various forms. This dear man had a concern and compassion towards those who had come to real faith in Jesus Christ. Paul recognised his enemy. That same enemy opposes men and God and the work of God in these present days and it is sheer deception to ignore and overlook this possibility. Paul writes that he wanted to come to them on various occasions, but Satan hindered us. He stopped us and prevented us and hindered us. It is the word for breaking up a road to render it impassable. “Out of sight – out of mind” is a popular proverb, but that was not true as far as Paul was concerned. These men and women in Thessalonica were near to his heart even though miles separated them.

The Church I attended after re-locating back to London had a practice which was most unfamiliar: prior to the pastor delivering the sermon, he would make a declaration, with the congregation, the first few words of which were “This is my Bible, I am what it say’s I am, I have what it say’s I have, I can do what it says I can do. This morning I will be taught the word of God etc…” Some of you may be familiar with this from ministries like Joel Osteen’s. At first the ritual just seamed like, well, a ritual, but as I began to contemplate the significance of these words it struck me that I needed to establish, ‘what does Gods word say I am, I have, and I can do.’ So many Christians can site the negative side to these statements, which is why I guess so many of us are stuck with unproductive, unfruitful lives, but applying this in the spirit it was intended; a positive confession, a prayerful declaration, sets the tone for out receptivity to Gods word with a view to practical application. I decided to look at these points and here’s a brief overview:
